Water Tank Retention

With the cleanout cover in place, it was time to fix the tank retention straps. Rather than using the original plumber's tape, I installed a couple 1" nylon cam straps. I cut the hooks off the end and then put a hole through the strap using a hot phillips screwdriver.

The straps ends were retained by 1/4" lag bolts and large area washers.

I installed a cleat on the outer side of the tank, and then installed the two retention straps close to where the original straps had been.

  1. Good idea using the straps John. At first I thought you were going to use them as hangers, which might not be a good idea, if the holes were to start ripping out, but as a retainer, this is a really good idea.

    1. I'm a fan of cam straps. Use them to load the kayaks and canoes but didn't want to use one of my good NRS straps. These Far East imports will do the job for this function.

  2. I missed your trip home. Here I was expecting Alaska and I am seeing a Scamp water tank mod! :D

Good job! I need to make my water tank more secure because I am not convinced that it is secure when we travel with a full tank!

I was wondering if putting one of those rubber mats that you put under rugs to keep them from sliding would be a good thing to put underneath the tank before strapping it down? I might do that... if I ever get around to the project!

    1. Nothing exciting about the trip home since we did get on the nonstop. Now I'm back in Bullhead working on the dory while the water tank project publishes on a timer. I hadn't thought of putting foam under it, but you're hitting pretty close to home with the 3rd part of this series.

    1. I think it's lots better than the rusty plumber's tape that the factory uses!
