It wasn't just carpentry and animals and paint that were interesting this week. Glory Farm just acquired the requisite old farm truck, a 1952 International. This one has been a barn queen since 1973 and only shows about 55,000 miles on the odometer. Nellie didn't run when she arrived, and she didn't run when we left, but she's getting close.
Even the 40+ year old tires are still holding air.
A Google search suggests that the truck has outlived at least one of its owners. A study of the driver's door suggests this labeling may be the second owner.
I've found this project interesting because Dad had a similar International pickup, two years younger than this one, that figured in lots of memories, starting when I was very young.
On the way out of town using a very circuitous routing, we spotted another, slightly newer, International that needs some attention. It comes complete with a house that looks like it could stand some restoration loving as well. Seems like it would fit right into the existing skill sets at Glory Farm.
We're in Wenatchee tonight, looking forward to Mother's Day with Mom tomorrow.
Cool project. Reminds me of the book "Truck: A Love Story" by Michael Perry. I forget his exact model year but his resto (and rest of the story) was a good read.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to try and chase down a copy one of these days.
