American Heritage Campground - Tumwater / Olympia

We picked this place because we wanted reservations over the 4th of July holiday near BJ's family, and we wanted to have electricity at our site. Millersylvania State Park also has utility sites but they're further out of town and were already booked by the time I started getting organized. The narrow road is paved. Sites are either gravel or grass depending on location.

The sites are each unique in terms of size, accessibility, and privacy. Many of the sites are FHU while others are just electric & water. They also have a separate loop without hookups intended for tents but the pricing is the same as the W/E sites.

Most of the sites have considerable shading although there are a few that back up to a large play field that have very little shading.

Even over the 4th of July weekend, they had a small handful of sites available. In the middle of the week it seemed to be about 50% full with a wide variety of equipment from 42' buses and very large 5th wheels to small trailers, campers, and tents.

Many of the sites are angled for easy access, but some had right angle entries. Some sites were small and clearly designed to be a tandem shared site.

When I called to make reservations the gal asked about size of equipment and preferences and matched us up with a great location. We traded off the relatively tight right angle entrance to our site for lots of privacy and space in the back.

They have a small store, laundry, LP service, pool, playground, and dump facilities near the entrance and a daily hayride. With the exception of one noisy neighbor on Saturday evening, the park, although busy, was quiet. We tend towards public campgrounds or boondocking, but this location served us well and we'll likely return next time we're in the area if we need to be close to town.
