A Last Look at Wenatchee

The past couple days have been busy with Mom, scanning a bunch of pictures she wanted family to have. Mostly pictures of never known relatives who add color and robustness to our family tree. Even so, the picture I liked the best may give some basis to my interest in what are now old trucks, old tractors, and old barns. This one was stuck in the back of her wedding book, simply dated 1949.

We did get a chance to visit the new home of Wenatchee's Farmer's Market. The Pybus Market leveraged a 65 year old building to create an indoor/outdoor mall for farmers and speciality vendors. They had a "soft" opening this past week although there are still lots of construction details to finish.

The building had once been an auto and truck parts business

but now houses neon signs for a bakery (we can vouch for their cinnamon rolls, cranberry scones, and strawberry/rhubarb tart)

and a very nice veggie and fruit stand. There were many other businesses that should be open Real Soon Now.

Outside was an appropriately named coffee, pastry, and sandwich establishment which we didn't try since we prefer fiberglass over rivets for our travel trailers.

We'll be on the road in about an hour. We expect to be crossing the border northbound at Osoyoos, BC today, headed for Kelwona, Lake Louise, and Grande Cache on our way to Dawson Creek and the official start of the Alaska Highway. For the next couple weeks we'll be updating the blog intermittently when we finding available public wi-fi.

    1. So far the road looks really good, but as noted in the 5/17 post, it's not as smooth as it appears!
