Paradise!

The best part about our site in Paradise was a spot to put our chairs with tall trees for shade. a view of the river

and a rock to serve as a foot stool.

We enjoyed sitting there, reading the Kindle, and watching boats go by. Paddle rafts from various outfits in all different colors

and an occasional oar rig.

Inflatable kayaks, aka duckies, were also seen on the river.

Kayaks came in all colors. Some paddlers wore wet suits while others wore dry tops to protect from the cold water when they roll, while others wore tee-shirts, perhaps because they were "sure" they wouldn't get wet. The fellow in the yellow kayak was using hand paddles.

Not all the kayakers were experienced. This guy was in an inappropriate boat without a spray skirt, not using his knees for boat control, and clearly very twitchy and nervous. Saw him twice - seemed a bit more confident the second time.

"Almost" Paradise was wonderful and is on our list of places to revisit. Connectivity was marginal. We could get 3 bars of slow 4G using our antenna and booster. Zero bars without it.

  1. Was it difficult to sit idly by while watching all the river activity? I guess it was easier knowing you had a boat and could join the fun if so inclined.
Love the map link that makes it easy to find where you are. Hope to make it up there next summer.

    1. We actually talked about trying to borrow a whitewater kayak, but I didn't bring any whitewater gear so we settled for watching. The Northwest has been wonderful this summer. BJ would say it was cold. Take your pick ;-)

    2. Cold sounds good to me as we are looking at least 8 more weeks of summer!

  2. Hello John, Wonder what antenna and booster you use for your WiFi?

    1. We use the early version Wilson Sleek 4G-V for our Novatel 4620 MiFi from Millenicom. Both items are now superceded by newer versions but we haven't seen any reason to upgrade. The antenna is a "Super Trucker Antenna" from Maximum Signal, installed on a folding 42" mast.

    2. Details on the antenna installation are in the first blog post for December, 2012. Blogger won't let me embed a link in my own comments!
